Clancy Moving Systems is proud to announce the results of our 1st TOYS for TOTS toy drive. Led by Lisa Stevens, the team raised over $350 in cash and 40 toys!
The Holiday Season is one of the many times during the year our team gets to give back to the community and help those in need. We appreciate the support of you; our friends, family and colleagues as well as professional affiliations that provide these wonderfully rewarding opportunities.
Several reviews from customers on Google Places (maps) and Yelp! added to the fundraiser including a recommendation posted by Educational Innovations, a Bethel CT based business we helped move this year that supplies, “creative teachers and parents with unique science supplies that capture the imaginations of their students.” Educational Innovation’s review was posted on our facebook page.
Customers were asked last month to review our business on specific social sites and in return, Clancy donated $5. for each new review.
Lisa shared that she hopes we can make hosting a Toys for Tots toy-drive an annual Clancy tradition and help even more children with their wish lists in 2012!

Healthy Families New York is a program that reaches out to the community to help children in the area with their Christmas wish lists.
This year, people in the community helped 128 children get toys, winter clothes and even a new bed for one little boy.
Andrew and Andrew loaded up all the gifts from two drop-off locations at people’s homes and delivered them to Healthy Families New York, located in Poughkeepsie, NY. We didn’t get to see any of the children that we helped to provide gifts for – we brought the gifts to Healthy Families and the case workers will deliver the gifts during their home visits.
Healthy Families New York goals are to support positive parent-child bonding and relationships, promote optimal child health and development, enhance parental self-sufficiency and prevent child abuse and neglect. Healthy Families New York is a collaboration of the 39 Healthy Families programs in New York State, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Prevent Child Abuse New York, Inc., the Center for Human Services Research of the State University of New York at Albany, the New York State Home Visiting Council, and Healthy Families America.

Please share with your friends and family this story so that it may never happen to you or your loved ones.
My personal good friend is struggling to help bring his Mom home to the rest of her family. I just spoke with him on the phone as he told me how his well-meaning Mother hired 2 men from right outside the unemployment office to help her pack the last of her things into her portable storage container. Those 2, “nice looking” men gave first names and a cell phone number but left with all the moving money she had thought was safe in her purse…nearly $2,000 cash. The police can not do anything more for them without more information. She’s moving out of Florida but this story could just as easily happen to my Mom in New York.
I helped him write down what happened so he could share it on a site called, IndieGoGo which only takes 4 – 9% as a processing fee so it helps them get the money that they need to raise fast. It is not a position anyone should be in and I appreciate them being willing to share their story with others. Please click here if you’d like to read more about what happened and how you can help.
The moral of this story is please don’t hire just anyone you find on the street to help you move. You may feel like you are doing a wonderful thing….especially with the Holidays here and more coming up, but there are many people out there looking to take advantage of others. Use who you know and who you can trust.
“Rogue movers” are men (or women) that pose as movers, offer services without warranty or insurance on Craigslist or you may find them other places looking for work. ASK for things like references, proof of insurance, ID…these are things REAL movers (or honest people for that matter) will have and won’t be afraid to show you. There are far worse things that could have happened to my friend’s Mother. In the past year, I have heard horror stories of entire home contents being held hostage and losses of several thousand dollars or more.
Visit www.ProtectYourMove.gov for more information on why the regulations we follow are so important and what your rights and responsibilities are when you move.
Wishing you a safe holiday season,
Liz Domin

It is an “Extreme” transformation viewers watching the show Sundays at 8/7 central time on ABC get to see. By the time the show host Ty Pennington shouts, “Move that bus!!!!” to reveal the home’s new look to the family, you may just be in tears too.
In the past season 8, a new home was brought to a man, his wife and four children after a car accident left him paralyzed from the shoulders down. Later in the same season, an episode featured the creation of a safe haven for a 9 year old boy with brittle bone disease. These episodes are currently viewable on the show’s website.
The episode our team participated in was for the Korpai family in Orange County, NY. Hailey Korpai is the reason the home was built. She is 5 years old and has a form of dwarfism. This new home is designed to help her with everyday tasks. Our role was providing some muscle to help move the family quickly as well as provide temporary storage with our trailers.
That’s all we can say until the show airs! The season premier was Sunday, September 25 at 7|6c. The show our team participated in will air Sunday, October 16!
The Record-Online wrote a short article about the show during the build and the in the latest news post-build, the Korpai family gave thanks to all for their new home. Those are the only other, “inside” details you may see published until air date. The ABC EMHE staff has a tight watch on what is revealed prior to the show reaches TV…no spoilers allowed.
Until then… all the best to Miss Hailey and the Korpai family! We hope you enjoy your new home while we wait to see the full transformation on TV!
The Emmy award winning reality program “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” entering its 9th season, is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It’s executive-produced by Brady Connell and George Verschoor. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America. Episodes air Sunday from 8:00 – 9:00 p.m., ET on ABC.

There are a number of professional sources that have advice on how to better manage stressful situations including moving.
Because it is so common to be stressed while moving, we’ve put together some tips we’d like to share with you on how to have a stress-free move!
1. Get organized! Proper Planning Prevents… problems! There are many that will say no amount of planning can ever prevent all issues from coming up during a move however with a little planning you can be better prepared to manage unforeseen challenges. Not being prepared leads to frustration and stress…preparation helps you stay in control no matter how hectic things may get.
2. Make lists and keep them in a binder or notebook. Keeping your notes, receipts, checklists, etc. all together is the key thing here. The more you pack or move things around from where they were, the more likely you are to misplace important things like contact information for your move coordinator or a copy of your inventory list or even your estimate.
3. Label boxes with where they should go in your new home. It is more important for the movers to know where the boxes should go then where they were! Label each box clearly (in print) and please be neat! If you have poor handwriting print labels from your computer. Avery is a well-known name in office supplies and has some tips which include how to use their free software to print your own moving labels. Color coding can be an additional useful step if you have many boxes to sort through for each room.
4. Enlist the help of your moving team as early as possible! And by moving team I don’t just mean your movers! Whether you have booked a full-service move from Clancy or are renting one of our GoMini Portable Storage units to do-it-yourself, you need to have a “team” of trusted friends and family to help you…packing, babysitting, pet sitting/dog-walker, cleaning services, etc. Figuring out WHO you need to help you where is just as important as HOW you are going to move. Be sure to call to arrange your chosen moving services at least 1 month before you plan to move especially during “busy” seasons like the summer months. Friends (go on summer vacations) and service providers may want to help you but not be able to unless you ask for help early enough.
5. Step by step, figure out what comes first and start there. It’s often waiting until last minute (procrastinating) that leads to stressful situations when moving. Don’t delay the most important tasks and you will be happier on moving day. If a task is hard to start because it is not something you want to do (like separating items to keep, toss, donate or tag sale), just start it with 10 minutes. The first ten minutes are the hard part and you should be on a roll to get the task done. Worst case you spend 10 minutes doing it each day until you get the task completed.
6. Moving can be heart wrenching, sad, happy, exciting or everything in-between. It doesn’t matter how old you are or where you are moving, there are some emotions at work and not realizing them can do more harm than good. Each member of a family moving may feel differently so parents should talk to their children about how they feel. Psychology Today magazine published an article, “Moving is Tough for Kids” using research provided by The New York Times and it talks about making sure you keep them busy doing as many social activities as possible in the new neighborhood. Don’t forget to be social is a good tip for adults too when moving into a new town to help avoid post-move depression. Looking forward to joining a gym, gold club or other association in your new town can help you keep a positive outlook on your move.
7. Keep routines like mealtimes and bedtimes consistent. As people get ready to move they often have trouble sleeping and forget to eat properly. Additional warning signs and coping methods can help in cases of severe stress. There is often anxiety leading up to moving day that you can take steps to relieve by maintaining your regular schedules (including physical fitness programs) where possible. If you have children or pets, this is important for them too. Making sure you all eat regularly and get plenty of rest will help you have a better moving day.
8. BREATHE. You are organized and have resources to help you. Many people stress moving and those that do it all the time learn to avoid stress through planning. If you have at least a month before your move date and already contacted our experienced team for your free moving estimate then you are on your way to a stress-free move!

Have you listed your home for sale and been told you need to consider homestaging…but what is Homestaging? In short, Homestaging is getting your house ready to be SOLD so you can get moving! There are a few basic ideas to have in mind whether you choose to hire professionals or do it yourself.
Here are some of the most common tips for staging your home:
1. Disconnect Your Emotions. You need your home to sell so it needs to STOP being thought of as, “your home.” Make the commitment to see your home from a “buyer’s eyes” and proceed to the next step.
2. Depersonalize! Start by removing family photos, personalized door mats, monogrammed towels and other household items that are not, “anonymous.” Look at magazines for current style trends. Most feature open spaces, neutral balanced color schemes and few trinkets or accessory items. One or two collections can make a nice display but it may be VERY hard to find a buyer that cares about your beer bottle collection – if you catch my drift!
3. Remove Clutter! “The home should be cleaned and de-cluttered as part of the staging process. Recommendations are made to lighten and brighten by refreshing with paint where needed, removing wallpaper, editing and rearranging furniture, and removing distracting window treatments. Let the light shine in, and please clean the windows while you are at it!” writes Claudia Jacobs of Claudia Jacob’s Designs Homestaging. In her recent article titled, “Is Your Home Ready for it’s Close Up” in this and other blog posts, Claudia offers many suggestions on how to help get your home sold. Decluttering is often a hard step for home owners to do alone. It is not uncommon to be attached to everything because of how long you have lived in your home.
Removing clutter is such an important step in making as much square footage of open space as you have – actually visible! A more attractive home to a buyer can get you a lot closer to your asking price than a home that is left cluttered. Get everything off counters, clear off shelves, dust off your mantle….leave only a few carefully selected decorative items. Just take a look at these examples from Claudia’s website and see what I am talking about!
4. Make Repairs. Please fix what is obviously broken BEFORE you have your first open house! Nothing is more unattractive to a potential buyer than seeing hanging wires and leaky faucets…plus, they may be hazards that can stop a sale and put delays on your family’s move. Many professionals will advise you to get a home inspection, “One of the most intelligent things you can do before putting your home on the market is to have an inspection done.
It has actually been proven that a good inspection can increase the listing price of your home. It will also give you the opportunity to fix anything that needs to be corrected before potential buyers get in there.” Click here to read the article from a recent Real Estate blog entry about home inspections.
5. Consider Curb Appeal. What does your home look like from the outside? How does it compare to other homes in the area? While now may not be the timing to completely redesign your lawn, take a look at your patio areas and entryway. Taking a few photos can help give you an outsider’s perspective. Can you see your house behind all the overgrown shrubs? How about cutting those back and add a colorful planter with flowers to create a more welcoming space at a low cost. Also, a small well-coordinated patio set on your porch can be just the place for Realtors to sit with visitors discussing your property and how ideal it is!
“This Old House” website has a gallery of, “The Best Curb Appeal Before and Afters 2010” which gave me a more few ideas on how to turn on the charm of the front of my own home. Do take note of the color changes and cutting back of overgrown shrubs!
I hope this top 5 list has helped give you some ideas to help you get your home sold so you can move into your new place. After all, we want you to GET MOVING too!

An email went out recently to our team that participated in the 2011 GREAT STRIDES walk to raise money to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. For many, it was an emotionally moving day, sharing memories and stories of hope. Over $1,700. was raised by Team Clancy Moving in online donations alone.
“I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who took some time out of their day yesterday to participate in the Great Strides Walk. The event was rain or shine, and as everyone knows, it was pouring. Thankfully, we were able to walk inside and stay dry. We learned about the importance of education about this very serious disease and how needed each and every dollar is that we helped to raise. In addition to participating in the walk, there was food and beverages served, as well as a live band playing. All in all, it was a great day.
Special thanks to the following walkers for participating and raising money:
Chris Reinhardt and family
Lisa Stevens and family
Patrick Nimphius and wife
Andrea Duke and family
Matt Horn and family
April Campbell and friend
Leslie Seals
Jim Carey and his son
Tom Grimes
Rob Grella
Andrew Parr
Nicole Corbett and her brothers
Liz Domin and friends
Mike Travis, his son and friend
Lisa Camilleri and family
Dave Coughlin
A very special thanks to those who donated that could not walk.
If anyone has any other pictures that they wouldn’t mind sharing, please forward them to info@clancymoving.com so I can add them to the album.
Thank you all again.
