Last year our Clancy Moving Systems team was able to raise just under $3,000 for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life.

This year we want to exceed that! The relay is Saturday June 8th, 2013 at the Patterson Fire House.

Bring the whole family! There will be food, games, crafts, silent auctions, raffles (like our raffle to win NY Yankee tickets), DJ/live band, mechanical bull, CLANCY RUN DUNK TANK (dunk your boss!) and MUCH, MUCH MORE!!

Also, please let us know if you’re interested in helping out on the day of the event!

Every day, the American Cancer Society is helping us stay well by preventing cancer or finding it at its earliest, most treatable stages. They assist families in finding the best resources to help their friend or loved one deal with a diagnosis and their journey to get well.

The American Cancer Society is also rallying communities (like ours!) through events like Relay For Life, to fight back and find cures for this disease.

Almost everyone has been touched by cancer, either through their own personal battle or through someone they love.

Local Resident Wins National Service Award

Putnam County resident Jennifer Storms has been awarded United Van Lines’ 2013 “Heart of Quality” award for the second straight year.  The Heart of Quality Award was established in 2005 as a way to recognize the “unsung heroes” behind every successful move. The 2013 winners provided customers with exceptional service, earning their confidence and loyalty.

What makes the award so highly regarded in United Van Lines is the fact that customers, through the surveys they return, are the ones who bestow this award on its worthy recipients.

Storm’s attention to detail, nurturing attitude and willingness to, “go the extra mile” help take the stress out of a customer’s move.  Clancy President, John Clancy, said, “United has thousands of caring and helpful professionals.  They know this business involves more than moving people’s goods.  Customers are often changing their lives when they move.  To have Jen recognized as the best of the best is a great achievement in the long history of our company.”

Clancy Movers Support Healthy Families NY is Becoming an Annual Tradition!

Clancy Moving Systems donated a truck and two men today for the second year in a row to help benefit the Hudson Valley’s Healthy Families New York annual Gifts for Kids Program.  The program started eight years ago, coordinated by Melissa Luongo of Poughkeepsie, NY, began by helping thirty children in the community in need, who might not otherwise get a gift for Christmas.  Fast forward those eight years, and the organization this year helped 173 children receive gifts for Christmas.

The first picture shows Clancy employees Chris T., Nate W., Move Coordinator Jennifer Storms and HV HFNY organizer Melissa Luongo.

People from all over the country donated to this program by purchasing gifts including clothing, toys, puzzles and books.  Each donator was assigned a child (or children), given their name, age, size and interests.  The goal is to give each child an outfit and toy (s) for Christmas.  So many people reached out to help, that there were more donators than children this year.

The Healthy Families New York Home Visiting Program offers home-based services to expectant families and new parents, beginning prenatally or shortly after the birth of the child. Participants are screened to identify risk factors and stress that the new family may face. Families who participate in the program are offered long-term in-home services until the child is in school or Head Start.  The Healthy Families New York Home Visiting Program is a comprehensive prevention program that focuses on the safety of children while at the same time supporting families. The services are easily accessible to isolated, at-risk families and are respectful of cultural and community diversity.

Clancy’s helpers this year were Nate W., Chris T. and Move Coordinator Jennifer Storms.  Nate and Chris picked up and loaded a room full of presents from two locations, along with the help of community friends, and delivered them to Healthy Families in Poughkeepsie, NY.  The presents will be distributed to the children by their assigned caseworker.  All gifts remain anonymous.

Clancy Moving Systems  (2963 Route 22 in Patterson, NY 12563 – Putnam County) is currently a drop-off location to collect nonperishable items.

Items in need are: fall/winter clothing, baby needs (diapers, wipes, etc.), hygiene items, water, industrial strength black garbage bags, heavy duty rubber gloves, flashlights, batteries, generators, hand sanitizers, toilet paper, toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.) new underwear (all sizes, kids, adults) all socks in packaging, paper goods (for shelters to distribute food).

If you want to make a monetary donation we will do the shopping for you!

We are helping hurricane Sandy relief efforts in New York, New Jersey and Long Island. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated!

If you have recently organized a large collection and need help getting items to their destination (such as charity groups in the effected areas) PLEASE LET US KNOW!  We are actively looking to FILL OUR TRUCKS and bring supplies directly to the hard hit areas along the NY and NJ coastlines.  We will do our best to accommodate requests as we hear from you.

Our Clancy / Go-Minis Portable Storage NY offices regained power late last week and phones are back up.  We are based out of Putnam County, NY and Fairfield County, CT and are looking to bring supplies down into the hardest hit areas still needing relief as soon as we can fill our trucks.

Sandy Strengthens as Hurricane Barrels Toward New Jersey

Damages could reach the billions reported Bloomberg news this morning (Oct 29, 2012 9:56 AM ET) as Sandy grows stronger and heads towards New Jersey.

“The storm, 900 miles across, shut the federal government and state administrations from Virginia to Massachusetts. It halted travel, prevented U.S. stock markets from opening and upended the presidential campaign. It may cause more than $6 billion in damage and knock out power to 10 million for a week or more.”

10:05 a.m.: Flooding reported; shelter setup; wind warning of 80 mph gusts – Hudson River and Coastal Towns Expected to be Hit Hardest

Many New Yorkers are already fighting the rising water levels.

“The worst of Hurricane Sandy storm is expected to hit the northern suburbs between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. today, but its effects are already being felt.” Just this morning, a business owner in Mamaroneck rushed to secure property and office equipment.  The coastal and river towns are stockpiling sandbags in preparation for high water levels and much flooding throughout the region.

Continued from the article linked above, “In Rockland County, residents were battening down the hatches as they braced for the impact of the storm. Municipal workers in Ramapo filled hundreds of sandbags Sunday morning at the town’s highway facility on Pioneer Avenue. Long lines quickly formed as residents stockpiled more than 2,000 sandbags before noon.”

Many Homeowners Expected to File Insurance Claims

Although maybe not something anyone wants to think about right now… Who will be paying for the damages? Your insurance policy may not cover as much as you think.  Common advice is to prepare as best you can to avoid damages. Repair and remediation can take weeks.  Get as much as you can to higher ground and stay safely indoors.

According to USA Today, “States that have hurricane deductibles: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington, D.C.”

Pajama Program currently has 63 chapters in 40 States and operates three (3) Reading Centers:  New York, NY, Yonkers, NY and Red Bank, NJ.

For the past few years Ron Cognetta based in our Stamford, CT commercial moving office has been leading the Pajama Program collection for Clancy.  If you were not already aware, Ron and other members of our team have stepped in to help with the collecting, sorting, and delivering new pajamas and new books from various clients.  Our warehouse in Newtown, CT (Fairfield County) is currently being used for storing donations as they are prepared for distribution.

The Pajama Program Helps Kids in Need

As simple as it is, a new set of pajamas and new book to read provides much needed comfort to the children the program benefits.  These children are living in shelters and group homes and are often shuffled from one temporary home to another. They have been abused or abandoned, and in many cases, have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a mother or father tuck them in at bedtime in clean night clothes with a story read to them or their own book to read.  Through the Pajama Program, we are contributing to a warmer, more loving bedtime.  With your help, we are making a big difference in these children’s lives!

How You Can Help

Please stop by our main office at 2963 Route 22 Patterson, NY office (across the street from Thunder Ridge) and for a $1 donation, your name will be added to the entryway.

Every $10 we collect = 1 set of PJ’s + 1 new book for a child.

Donations of NEW, unworn pajamas (or a nightgown) for infants through age 17 are also welcomed along with NEW books. These children rarely get anything new which is why this gift is so meaningful to them.

Please have any cash, check, new bedtime clothing or new book donations left at our reception desk by no later than 5pm Friday, October 27.

Business owners looking to donate excess inventory (new items only): Please call ahead if you have pallets or large boxes for delivery or pickup.
